Due to extremely hot and dry conditions, Colorado is burning. Eight wildfires are creating a swath of destruction across the state from the Four Corners region to Fort Collins. Most notable is the Waldo Canyon fire that has lead to the evacuation of 32,000 people and has destroyed an estimated 346 homes according to the Denver Post.
So the question is, how prepared are you and your family for a disaster? What if you have to evacuate your home quickly? Would you be ready? Do you have a back up kit filled with supplies such as medicine, glasses, hygiene products and important documents that you can grab and take with you? Have you identified those critical items that you might need in case of an evacuation?
Fortunately, there are many resources available to help us prepare for disasters. With preparation and practice, we can anticipate how to respond quickly and efficiently. Start today by organizing your supplies in a central location in your house or by purchasing a disaster supply kit through the American Red Cross.
